It's all about belief. Chelsi · Twenty · Welsh. ʘ‿ʘ
Lifelong supporter of Manchester United. Mila Kunis is my favourite. Sometimes we go to Old Trafford. Tayls. ♥‿♥
I’m just gonna write everything that happened here so I can go back to it whenever.
So we got to Manchester at about 12pm and while we were waiting on the train, my dad pointed out a huge scrap heap and just beyond it, you could see City’s stadium. And I was like “Spot the difference” and my dad said “Impossible” askfjksd and we went to the pub we were staying at and dropped our stuff off and got some food and then made our way to Old Trafford.
We were on one of the trams and I was just craning my neck to try and see the stadium and then the tram stopped and we got off and we walked down the street and there it was and it was so beautiful o m g. Like honestly, TV doesn’t do it justice. It’s amazing.
Look who it is! ♥
I had my photo taken with the United Trinity, which was quite possibly my biggest dream aside from actually watching a match at OT.
Ugh I am actually bursting with pride there; my dad was like “alright, love?” and I couldn’t even form words alsfjsgd I just did a dorky thumbs-up sign.
Then we had a walk around the stadium and I took photos of everything United-related.
There were huge banners explaining the history of Old Trafford and how it’s evolved over the years and it was amazing. My favourite was the one about Billy Meredith but I liked this one too so here you go.
Then we went to the Megastore and it’s the most wonderful place you could ever imagine omg it has everything. My dad and I were just running around, we had no idea where to go or what to look at first.
Yeah so after we freaked out and jumped around for a few minutes, we got a bunch of stuff (I wanted to buy one of everything but I couldn’t carry it all ;~;).
So we have.
Scarves (L-R: Manchester United v New York Cosmos/ Paul Scholes’ Testimonial match day scarf, Believe/ We’ll Do What We Want, 19 times champions, the familiar red and white stripes and the anti-Glazer scarf).
Posters (we got two of the generic ‘19 times champions’ posters and two of the 2010/ 11 EPL celebrations).
The Champ19ns book which I’m actually gonna give to my grandad for his birthday.
Photos from the 2010/ 11 EPL trophy presentation.
I also bought the new shirt and my dad was shouting “Get Sneijder on the back, get Sneijder on the back!” like an excited kid but I got Vidic because I adore him and I’m not waiting around for Wesley and if he decides to sign for us, I’ll just go and get the away shirt with his name on the back or something but United is more important and I really wanted the new home shirt, so.
I spent nearly an entire week’s wages and if that’s wrong then I don’t want to be right.
Then we made our way back to the pub to drop our stuff off and then we went back to Old Trafford for the match and I decided to take photos of random strangers because I’m Chelsi and that’s what I do but omg look at this family and the stalls and all the shirts and the United Trinity. :-)
Seeing so many United fans in one place was really surreal. Everyone was so happy and they were all lovely and they just looked so proud to be wearing their shirts and I felt proud to be walking with them and standing with them. I’ve never had the chance to do that before and it was such a highlight of my life. Can’t imagine how Scholesy felt, looking around and seeing all the shirts with his name on the back. United fans are the best in the world and I refuse to believe otherwise.
We bought a few match programmes from one of the stands and they are the most amazing things ever (I told you I got excited about match programmes!). <3_____<3
Then we entered the actual stadium and showed one of the stewards our tickets and he slapped these blue wristbands on us and took us through this door and we got really excited because we thought the stands were the other side of the door but it was the Manchester Suite and we just stood there for about five minutes because we didn’t get what was going on. We thought the guy had made a mistake but then we noticed the bar and so I bought my dad a drink and we sat down and MUTV was showing on the plasma screen TVs and we just sat there with big fat hearts in our eyes as they interviewed Scholesy. :3
When we came out of the Manchester Suite, we could hear the announcer saying “Welcome to Old Trafford, the Theatre of Dreams and home to the greatest football team in the world, MANCHESTER UNITED!” and I’m tearing up as I type this and idk, I’ve heard the same thing at Cardiff City but it’s just not the same as Old Trafford and hearing it about United.
So we walked up the steps and I couldn’t breathe and the steward showed us our seats and I kept saying “Oh my God” and I just followed my dad to our seats like a zombie because it just didn’t feel real and then I couldn’t feel my legs and I was doing so well and I kept it together for the whole day and when we sat down I looked around and saw the One Love - Stretford End - MUFC banner and I was gone. But I was really good sdhfjds I only cried twice.
Then I remembered that the Theatre of Dreams sign is above the North Stand so I looked up and wahey there it was and ugh we were sat in my favourite place in the stands and we had the Stretty to our right and Sir Alex and King Eric opposite us and I couldn’t have asked for better seats, it was perfect.
The pitch is smaller than it appears on TV and the players look a lot bigger when you’re watching them from the stands (maybe it’s because we were lucky to have good seats) and it was amazing to be so close to them.
I’ll shut up now.
Here have some training photos.
Getting to see them train was such an experience. It was great to see the young players like Pogba training with legends like Giggsy.
Park and Evra trained together (as usual), Rio paired up with Vidic and I don’t think the twins even left each other’s side.
Both de Gea and Lindegaard looked great during training. Replacing someone as strong and dependable as Van der Sar is no easy task so to expect that much of our keepers right away is a bit stupid, to be honest. Especially de Gea, who needs time to adjust to the EPL. But I have faith in both of them (and Amos) and I’m sure they will grow into the role given time.
It was such a joy to have the New York Cosmos at Old Trafford. It’s not every day you get to see Fabio Cannavaro playing alongside Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Dwight Yorke.
Before the match started, there was the guard of honour and everyone in the lower tier of the North Stand had plastic sheets on their chairs. My dad had a red one and I had a white one and everyone started choking up a little when we raised them in the air. I’ve looked at photos of the mosaic and it looks absolutely beautiful and it’s really weird to think we were part of it (I was part of the ‘N’ in ‘GENIUS’ so that should give you an idea of where we were sat).
After Scholesy’s goal, we started singing Fergie Sign Him Up and we booed when he refused to take the penalty and gave it to Rooney instead.
At half-time, one of the announcers said “We’d like to welcome someone very special to Old Trafford…” and my dad and I screamed “WESLEY SNEIJDER!!!”
Kym Marsh also came over to the touchline and sang an adapted version of Que Sera Sera as a tribute to Scholesy and then we all sang Ooh Aah Cantona and they played the regular United songs like GGMU and United Road. The Red Flag chant floated over from the Stretty as well and I was just over the moon because it’s my favourite ever.
We managed to get a Mexican wave going (I told you it would happen :’D) and all the fans were watching it go around the stadium and they all missed Welbeck’s goal (I think it was Welbeck; I was hyperventilating at the time).
So yeah here are the photos from the match.
Getting to see Rio play was fantastic, I just love him so much and that photo of him and Vidic is amazing because they’re my favourite defenders in the world and I just can’t believe they were there. The young ‘uns were brilliant as well and we were really happy to see the majority of the squad get a chance to impress. Cleverley had a decent game and I’m expecting great things from him over the next few years. I got so excited when Macheda was brought on but I think he was a little too desperate to prove himself to Sir Alex and squandered a lot of his chances but he’s still young and has lots of time to learn and gain more experience. I thought Young had a great match and I really wanted him to get a goal (he deserved it!) and Evra was incredible, just the amount of ground he covers and his awareness and pace. But do you know who I really love? Jones. He was so great and I can’t believe he’s younger than me - I can’t wait to see his development over the coming season.
Scholesy’s lap of honour was actually really difficult to watch. He looked so happy with his kids and his wife though and he knew he’d made the right decision to retire, so it was hard not to smile and laugh and sing along with the rest of the stadium.
As he walked off the pitch with the players, managers and fans applauding him, we all sang Paul Scholes He Scores Goals and it was a perfect end to a perfect day.
He’s just one in a million as a footballer and as a man and it was an honour to watch him in his final match at Old Trafford. He deserves all the happiness in the world and I know he’ll be a fantastic member of the coaching staff.
We stayed right to the end until Old Trafford was nearly empty and the stewards had to come over and ask us to leave (twice).
And we took a couple more photos on our way out of our United legends and the Busby Babes.
My dad and I were walking down the steps of the North Stand after the match and one of the other fans ran up to us and said “Go and look through those doors! The trophies from ‘99 are in there!” So we tried to open the doors but they were locked so we stuck our faces up against the window and look.
The stadium looks even more breathtaking at night, I honestly can’t even put it into words.
I just love this club so much it borders on desperation I tell you, desperation. It was an absolute dream come true and an honour and a pleasure and a very humbling experience. At the end of the day, I’m just one of the many many many fans who’ve visited Old Trafford. I know I’m just a tiny part of this club but being a part of it makes me feel special and I wouldn’t swap it for anything ever ever ever, idk it’s something only a fellow United fan would understand.
